Design Enterprise #desent15

So for my dissertation in my second semester of third year textiles I had to chose what module I would like to take. I had the choice of three different subjects to focus on, I can’t remember the other two which is obviously a good sign because I got my first choice —> “DESIGN ENTERPRISE” Woohoo !

I was very excited that I was chosen to be one of the students to participate in these interesting lectures hosted by the amazing Mike Press. I have to admit I admire him in the way he presents himself to us, he knows exactly how to do a presentation and to do it properly – capturing everyone’s attention. I don’t think I seen anyone fall asleep during any of his lectures that I have attended! Which is amazing, as all the lecture rooms get nice an cosy, and it get very hard to keep your head in the game. I know this because I have almost fallen asleep in a lecture before. Oops.

Anyways. Back to what this class is all about…

Design enterprise is about making something of yourself. Creating jobs instead of applying for them. There was an excellent quote – ” your here because you don’t want to be in a little box”

Which, for me personally suits the bill. I don’t want to be stuck in an office typing away on a computer about rubbish I don’t even care about. I want to make my own job, have my own career and hopefully eventually hire people like me to join me in my dream. I want to be and I will be an Entrepreneur.

I have started to create my own networking sites with the likes of Facebook, Twitter and this blog.

For part of my assessment I have been placed in a team of fellow Textile Students – Abbie, Andrew, Clare and Rachel, to discuss opportunities in finding a business to interview. We have researched many companies all over the UK trying to contact them to ask if we are able to come and visit them and ask them some questions for our dissertation. We planned this all in a days work and had decided to contact a few companies down in London, Contemporary Applied Arts got back to us almost instantly. We are traveling to London on Monday the 9th of February for a day to interview the Director of CAA – Clare Maddison on the 10th of February.
